So a few weeks ago I mentioned that my craft area needed a re-do... and that it did!  I just got home last night, and couldn't help but make a huge giant mess in my apartment before unpacking from Christmas!

But anyway - I went to HobbyLobby today and bought a bunch of their "unfinished" wood products, and painted them white - thus I got 3 shelves for $6.00 (total), quite nice considering I already had the white paint... I also bought 2 frames... plus some supplies, and I didn't do too badly in the money department.

My unused desk area - since I've moved into this apartment, I've been using my kitchen table as a study area.

My new re-vamped desk/ craft area, I also swapped out my craft book shelf for my study shelf, so that everything is in one area - no more walking all over the apartment to get supplies.
My mailing center, (color organized) fabric shelf, and organized craft boxes.

There will be better pictures eventually, but I felt that this summarized what I did this week - even though I only did it today - but 90% of that fabric was added to my collection this week... and this area was researched via pintrest and blogs for a bit... so I'd say that's really what I did this week...

I mean I also spent my last few days at home before flying back to Baton Rouge... about 2 weeks before school starts to re-stock my shop, promote my shop, hopefully get another Brick & Mortar... and maybe even a job that actually pays me ;)

Big Cartel or Etsy?

This is my current dilemma, I like Etsy, but think I might get better use of Big Cartel... so alas, I currently am running both.

I have also redirected my blog to a different email account, and set up a Facebook just for Artsy Anthropology! It's been an eventful, stressful day!

Please be my Facebook friend! Also, feel free to chime in on your shop preference, both are linked up in the navigation bar at the top of the page.

Wow, Friday is here again, so soon! That's a shame, it's been a pretty fantastic week and it's just flying by!  Anywhoo, my week hasn't been photographed well, but I did my best!

I went to my favorite Sushi place back home, Hiroba... twice this week. But that's okay with me!

I also finished up my Christmas shopping, then treated myself to some adorable headphones and a manicure - a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

It's getting cloudy outside which I can only hope means that it's going to snow. I am pretty bummed about the lack of snow - definitely wanted to hit up the mountain while I was home but that's okay... instead I'm staying down in the valley and bundling because it's cold!

I also found this amazing fabric store here, Mill Ends... it's a giant warehouse where fabric goes to die, and I am in love! I have since turned my bedroom into a new craft area and my mother isn't pleased. But alas, family is coming tomorrow so I had to clean it all up...

Later tonight I am hoping to see a movie, I'm excited, we will see.
WE BOUGHT A ZOO! How cute does it look?!

I have also gone out for dinner, coffee and drinks with friends from high school - doing some quality catching up. It's been a pretty good week.

Merry Christmas:

Oh My Goodness

First off, Hello to all of my lovely new followers!  Also, remember I need you all to email me your addresses so I can send you the free swag you get just for following me!  (email: artsyanthropology {at} gmail {dot} com)

Now... the shop was closed just because I am at home and couldn't mail things... but I am going to open it up again to allow browsing - please feel free to use my COUPON from Rouge&Whimsy.  Also all orders will ship on Dec 29th.

Okay... I know I am home and away from my crafting, but I have found an amazing fabric store here, and much to my mother's annoyance set up shop in my bedroom - which means a mess, which means more cleaning before the family comes - but it's totally worth it.

I found this adorable plaid, and also finally found the stretch lace I have been longing for - my craft store only has white in the like 2 inch variety, which I am also excited about. Anyway - this is a peak at some of the new stuff that will be going up throughout the week and well into the new year! Yay.

Also, totally random, but if you could be any fictional character who would you be?
I would be Buffy Summers, or Faith (I like her attitude a little more than Buffy's whole doomsday thing)... also, I would want Angel to be my man - so I guess ultimately Buffy.

So finals are over and it's officially been Christmas break for a whole week! So I have engaged in Christmas type activities, shopped and traveled home to Reno - where it's SOOO cold, but loving it!

On Monday night a few girls came over and we decorated Christmas cookies - way too fun for how old we are "supposed" to be.. but oh well - I loved it!

I woke up SICK on Sunday, but didn't really feel Sick until Monday - alas it is now Friday and I am just now almost over the "sickness"... which is nice, because now my allergies to my mom's 3 cats can take the place of the "sickness" - awesome!
These are the 4... yes 4, Make Up Brush holders I made as presents... well the Black and Pink one is mine - the rest are being gifted - who can blame me for keeping one for myself? I needed it for my new fancy brushes from Bare Minerals - which explains the next picture...

I swear I was just going to the mall to return some things - but all in all, I only spent like 70$ (not including what I spent a few weeks ago on the returned items) - but who counts that? I got all kinds of warm fuzzies to wear at home and a new makeup kit from Bare Essentials - pretty nice!

So this is apparently how COMPLETELY empty the Reno airport is at 8 pm on a Friday night. I found it quite amusing, having just rushed through Dallas Fort Worth where you can barely crash through the crowd at a rapid pace only to arrive sweaty, hot and exhausted at your destined gate to board you flight.

This looker is Louie - don't tell him, but he's kind of a Ham... if he even senses a camera he's there with a pose - he's like Zoolander, except he has more than 1 look and is most definitely not an "ambi-turner"

So that's my "Week in A Nut Shell" - please remember to go stalk other people over at Life Rearranged...

InstaFriday!

life rearranged

What a week it has been!  It's finals - so that means the apartment looks like a bomb has exploded, projects are everywhere, I'm living outta the clothes piles on my floor and my books have had to find temporary homes around the craft projects!

My living room on Sunday night, I kinda cleaned up after this...

On Monday I made a pie...                 On Tuesday I stayed home sick
And I took that time to work on
the gloves mom is getting for Christmas

Wednesday I dropped off more accessories at my Brick & Mortar

On Thursday... I might have spent too much time crafting rather than studying (oops). I made 3 pin-cushion mason jars, and 9 button fabric magnets - soooo much fun.

And alas, it is Friday night and I am in the midst of finishing up a paper that is due tomorrow - last final of the semester - Woot Woot.  *Notice the fabric piles underneath the books, yes that's how I roll - just pile the school work on top of the craft mess and everyone is happy.

Can't wait to see what everyone else has done on InstaFriday!

DIY Mason Jar Pin Cushions

I saw these pin cushion mason jars the other day - and just couldn't help but make them in advance for my craft area re-do I am hoping to tackle this weekend!  These are the ones that I made to hold my buttons, glue sticks and hair accessories backers. Too fun!

Check out the original tutorial by Emily over at her blog, The Anderson Crew. She has some amazing DIY tutorials!

PIE

So... yesterday when  I was at my local Fresh Market, their blackberries were way on sale... of course I had to buy some and make some pie that I don't need.

Some people think that pie is about what is inside - but really, we all know it's about the crust and homemade trumps store bought every time.

PIE CRUST!
  • 1 cup of cold unsalted butter
  • 2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup of cold water
  • **cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla for added deliciousness
1. Cut the butter into smaller pieces before adding into the bowl, mix the butter into the dry ingredients until pieces form roughly the size of a pea.
2. Add the water, as you continue to mix the dough will continue to form.
* Roll into a ball, and roll out on a floured surface (if the dough is sticky throw it in the fridge for a minute for the butter to set up again) - place into pie tin, fill with deliciousness - the end!

Craft Area Redo

Alright - so my craft space... which is just a bookshelf in my dining/living room is in need of a serious redo. It's terrible, so ugly and unsightly... but I don't know what to do about it.

The bookshelf is bad... usually a little more orderly, but the problem is that when I start crafting it all moves to the coffee table which then turns my living room into the nightmare below.

I am debating moving all my crafting over to my desk area, but then I can't watch the Tv... so I'd have to turn the desk around, which wouldn't fit... issues issues issues. I will have a craft room of my very own some day - and it will be amazing!

Scratch & Save - DYI

I ran across this tutorial by Dana over at Wonder Forest and just had to do it, literally not even 24 hours passed before my little fingers were thumbing though my scrapbook stash for a light colored card-stock. I then spent a ridiculous amount of time designing the scratch off base card.

Then I gathered my required packing tape, paint (metallic teal) and dish soap... following Dana's directions I was able to make these adorable little cards - which I will include in the gift for each new blog follower - it's a quite nice game, I will try to refrain from scratching them all myself.

Print off your desired cards, in this case 3.5X2 inch cards that I printed onto thick cardstock

Cover the portion that contains the coupon code with a piece of the packing tape. Then take your paint, mixed 2 parts paint to 1 point soap and paint it all over the tape. This will most likely take multiple layers.

Are these just too cute?! Did I mention fun? I won't scratch them all off, I won't scratch them all off...

Thank you so much to Dana for this amazing tutorial. Go check out her original here:
